Long-term services and supports in hawaii
From July 2015 to May 2016, I was part of a working group looking at the feasibility of Long-Term Services and Supports Social Insurance Program for Hawaii. Long-Term Care has been an issue in Hawaii for the past 40+ years and only recently has the lack of Long-Term Care been taken seriously by the government. The Long-Term Care Commission, established in 2008, conducted a comprehensive assessment of Hawaii's Long-Term Care system, releasing a final report in 2012. The report recommended a feasibility study, of which the report made several proposals on how the feasibility of a Long-Term Services and Supports Social Insurance Program.
My responsibilities in this working group were to analyze the economic impacts of financing and distributing benefits of such a program, as well as contribute to examining health and labor outcomes related to Long-Term Care (particularly with respect to taking care of parents with ADLs at home).
The working group collaborates with Hawaii's Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC). The ADRC website is the repository for the policy notes the working group has published. I also worked on how eldercare and having an older person in the household with physical/mobility limitations affects time use, and assisting two sociologists on (mental) health effects of parental care.
